Many practitioners have to tell their patients they are overweight or obese, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 Diabetes, arthritis and heart disease. The cycle seems to go like this. For health reasons the patient needs to lose weight for better health and hopefully to avoid medication whenever possible. A diet is recommended and the patient has good intensions. Sadly during the next checkup the patient’s weight has stayed the same or increased.

This is where the Health Coach enters the picture. Patients need a guide through their weight loss and maintenance of a new healthy lifestyle. It is difficult to lose weight and even more so to keep it off. It’s challenging for some to make time for exercise and not feel guilty they are not doing enough for their loved ones. Stressful careers rob patients of time and energy. Many people are stress eaters and a lot have no idea of portion size or nutrition.

YOUR HEALTH COACHING PROGRAM

The program begins with a screening for readiness, obtaining bloodwork, recording body fat and weight, doing a fitness evaluation and choosing an approved eating program or working with a registered dietician. I also help my clients develop their fitness goals and programs, which they can implement on their own, or in personal training sessions with myself or a trainer of their choice. Every week I meet with the client to review their food and exercise diary for accountability and to target behavior modification. In addition, I identify tools for navigating through life i.e.; eating in restaurants, going on vacation, cooking at home, finding time to exercise, family support, breaking negative habits and implementing ways to balance life and reach health goals.

The future should not be dependent on prescription meds, being sedentary and feeling stuck in a body you don’t want to live in.

Overcoming health challenges and honoring yourself should not be stressful.

Having feelings of shame and feeling out of control is not a happy way to live.”
