ABOUT ALANA
I was raised in a professional athletic environment. My father, Al Silvani, was a world-renowned boxing trainer, honored in the Boxing Hall of Fame. My brother, Carl, was a defensive lineman for the Washington Redskins. Growing up in this kind of atmosphere encouraged me to be competitive yet respectful of my body and it reinforced my attitude that I could be good at anything I set my mind to.
I’ve been working in health and fitness since 1992 when I graduated from California Healing Arts College. I’ve worked in many capacities and learned a lot during the process. I started out as a massage therapist and chiropractic assistant. I learned about injuries and how to help them but more importantly how to avoid getting them in the first place. In these first years I really learned better communication skills and compassion for the patients we treated.
The next phase was teaching group exercise and Spinning classes. I’ve been seriously working out since I was 18 so this was a natural progression. Next I received my personal training certification from the American Counsel on Exercise. Followed by my Pilates certification from the Physicalmind Institute. At this point in my career I feel that my skills are well rounded. I am still always a student. I take classes consistently and try to offer my clients the newest trends in fitness and bodywork.
My career has provided me with extensive experience. I have worked with healthy people without any restrictions for exercise. I have also worked with clients being treated for cancer, diabetics, transplant patients, Parkinsons, MS, and pregnancy and just about everything in between. The desire these people have to exercise and take care of themselves is what inspires me. To them feeling good is a gift not to be taken for granted. I believe everyone should be able to improve his or her health through exercise.
